Dead Samurai
Classic french/UK progressive house sound. Salinas could have been released on Rising High , Harthouse, HArdHAnds etc.. and Guillaume La Tortue was a notorious underrated french DJ in the early nineties, one of the best. He also had a record store i Paris by the name of Salinas. Many long crate digging afternoons spent there...
It's definitely not progessive house or that sound of house music in Europe from 1992-2002 as such.. It's techno.
over 8 years after my original comment below I'm happy to say that there's still nothing that sounds like Salinas...and it hasn't aged a minute! Slam mix on this Music Man release is great too: metallic-y Dutch-sounding airy hard techno...mmm, the good old days...
..absolutely right.. I just keep coming back to this record over & over - year after year! It has to be one of THE finest techno records so far! An absolute gem! I got 2 copies of the Happy Beach edition - I love this track THAT much.. Beautiful!
This track is best played late late late- in the haziness of some dancefloor fog...it just has an otherwordly, introspective, transcendant energy. Slow shuffles and wistful, soft, powerful, yearning chords... By now all us techno lovers have heard Jeff Mills' quote about what techno should sound like- something we've never heard before. That's what this track sounds like. Mixed to perfection on Laurent Garnier's X-Mix 2.
Originally released on Happy Beach Records (300 copies), Guillaume's label, this track is a souvenir of the famous balearic beach in Ibiza (now, Guillaume is leading Chronobrainand sub label as Adult Only, Taka...). It's also the name of his regretted record shop : Salinas. Back in the days, this track was so often played by Laurent Garnier or Robert Leiner...
